# Primary Care

## Overview

[CARMAhealth](../carmahealth.md) offers primary medical care within the same practice as its psychiatric services, with the stated goal of coordinating physical and mental health care — e.g., accounting for psychiatric medications when prescribing, and using routine bloodwork to monitor both metabolic health and the effects of psychiatric treatment (see [medication management](./medication-management.md)). Services listed by the site: chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension), preventive screenings and vaccinations, women's health exams, infectious disease treatment including Hepatitis C and HIV care, dietary consultation, STD testing and treatment, and minor office procedures. Primary care is open to all patients, whether or not they receive psychiatric treatment at CARMAhealth.

2. **Comprehensive health assessment** — full medical history review, including current psychiatric medications.
3. **Personalized care plan** — preventive screenings, chronic condition management, lifestyle factors, and coordination with the psychiatric treatment team.
4. **Ongoing monitoring** — regular visits, lab monitoring, and direct communication with the patient's psychiatrist; follow-ups available in person or via [telehealth](./telehealth.md) for Texas patients.
